What is the difference between a CGI proxy and a PHP Proxy
A CGI proxy and PHP proxy were both designed for the same basic purpose, to surf the Internet anonymously
with the ability to circumvent firewalls and filters. The leading free CGI proxy created by Jim Marshall
was built with many additional features and controls in mind and does a very good job at circumventing
firewalls and surfing the Internet anonymously. CGI proxies can generally handle passing authentication much
better than PHP proxies. CGI proxies can usually pass your user name an password to a site enabling you to
login to the site.
PHP proxies often fail at logging into websites such as facebook, and need to configured for specific sites. You will
find many PHP proxies cannot log into myspace, but most CGI proxies can log into myspace anonymously. PHP
proxies in general are a quicker light weight proxy, enabling you to do more tasks while using less server
resources. CGI proxies can require a great amount of server resources, requiring the server administrator
to tweak the configuration settings of the server and CGI proxy.
In summary, a CGI proxy keeps you anonymous
allowing you functionality with many sites and features, but with a greater load on the server. A PHP proxy
allows you to circumvent web filters also, are easier for the admin to configure and activate, and allow quick
easy, but sometimes limited functionality to blocked websites.
Why are there so many proxies?
Web proxies are very common for annomizing web surfing. If everyone used the same annomizer it simply
wouldn't be able to handle the traffic and simultaneous users. The firewall and websense administrators
would also have a very easy time blocking access to the only proxy. So the more proxies there are the
more likely you will be able to find one that is not blocked, and a good chance the server isn't overloaded.
I can log into Myspace.com, but cant make a post.
This is most likely do to your proxy not properly supporting all of the functions necessary to post to Myspace.
The proxy you are using requires more functionality to post messages on your friends myspace page than it does
just to surf to the page. To post to myspace using a proxy, you will need one capable, and not all have the
built in feature. You should try a different proxy. A CGI proxy should allow you to post in Myspace, as should
a Glype PHP proxy.
The proxy I am using can access youtube from work, but the videos don't load.
Most proxies don't support youtube out of the box, therefore requiring the proxy administrator to ad custom
coding to the proxy script to properly support viewing youtube videos. Choose a different proxy from the
list. One of the top listed proxies should support viewing youtube videos via a web proxy.
I submitted my proxy to proxyinter.net but I still don't see it on the proxy list.
Proxies submitted to proxyinter.net are not automatically added to the list. All proxies are manually
checked for functionality before being added to the proxy list. Proxies are normally approved and placed
on the list within three days, but sometimes can take longer. Please make sure your proxy is functional,
and has an input area on the main page. Proxy lists are not allowed on the proxyinter.net, and will not be
approved. Also make sure you have the proxyinter.net link on your page somewhere in a visible location,
and please follow the example on the submit page. Submit proxies in lowercase, without www.
How many proxies can I submit?
Proxyinter.net will allow you post as many proxies as you wish, but each proxy must have its own domain.
Proxyinter.net will not accept sub-domains to be placed on the proxy list.
I want to setup my own proxy, how do I get started?
There are many resources available to help you setup your proxy. You will first need to identify what you
want to use your proxy for. Do you want your proxy to be available to all, and try to make some money with
your proxy, or do you want to have a private proxy just for you and some friends. Next you will need to
find hosting for your proxy. Most proxy scripts require PHP on your web host to work, so you will need to
find a host who supports PHP, or CGI if you decide to go with a CGI proxy.
When starting your proxy, you
can start on a shared hosting package, and then move to a Virtual Private Server (VPS) or dedicated server
when you outgrow the shared webspace. You will need to keep in mind most hosting companies dont like to
host proxias on a shared server though because of the intense load a proxy can draw on the server. This
means if your proxy gets busy enough, the webhost will probably find your site and shut it down or suspend
your account. So you need to keep an eye on your traffic, and be prepared for this. There are manny proxy
hosts out tehre also, that are welcome to your proxy trafic.
WDservers offers great proxy hosting packages.
You also need to figure out what proxy script to use. The proxy scripts that come to mind are CGI, PHP, GLYPE
Surrogafier, and ZELUNE. All of these proxy scripts will let you surf anonymously, but not all have the same
functionality. Installing the script on your webspace is pretty simple, and most scripts provide instructions
and/or a support forum.
Now its time to start monetizing your proxy. Google adsense is a great place to start.
You can sign up for an Adsense account and have ads running on your new proxy in no time at all.
